Elemental Sweep:
In Elemental Sweep, each player controls two “elements” which counter their opponents' colored elements. The players roll 7 dice marked with the four elements, one “blank” rune, and one “wild card” rune to determine what spells they can play that turn, and then attempt to build a connecting line from their summoning point to the opponent's.
Elemental Sweep was a good exercise in asymmetrical design, because each element's “large” spells had to be differently shaped to ensure that players couldn't consistently overwrite their opponent's moves. It required a lot of playtesting to observe different dominant strategies, and ensure that each side had the same amount of tactical options available.
(Each player needed a number of “wide” spells for laying down defensive nets, and harder to predict “reach” spells for scoring wins against opponents).
This project was an individual assignment, completed over the course of two weeks, and nine rounds of playtesting/iteration.
